Biography
Current position: Lecturer in Journalism and Digital Media
My main interests are rooted in journalism as a public service going back to my time with the BBC World Service in London and with BBC Global News (1990-2011) as a producer, broadcast journalist, editor and reporter. I have trained hundreds, if not thousands of journalists in Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia over the last two decades, initially for BBC Media Action and then as part of my own media consultancy and training company, MediaTaur Ltd. My research focuses on the transition from public service broadcasting to public interest journalism in the digital era. I specialise in journalism curriculum design and reform and general media development in transitional and post-conflict countries.
Areas of Research
Public Service Media, public interest journalism, international affairs, disinformation and information resilience, media development in transitional countries, news journalism, strategic communication, media regulation, AI in journalism.
I was Programme Leader for MA International Journalism for Digital Media from 2014 till 2026 before focusing on research, professional writing and audio production.
