Academic Developer
Biography
John Dermo has worked in Educational and Academic Development for nearly 20 years, with a particular interest in Assessment literacy, Academic Standards and Professional Development. John is an Advance HE Senior Fellow and leads the Salford Accredited Learning and Teaching (SALT) Fellowship Recognition Scheme and is Deputy Teaching Excellence Awards Lead for the university. In these roles he leads and coordinates the support for university staff applying for the different categories of Advance HE fellowship and nominations for National Teaching Fellowship (NTF) and Collaborative Awards for Teaching Excellence (CATE). John is also a member of the programme team for the PG Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), having previously been programme leader and module leader for the module “Assessment and Feedback for Learning”.
John also supports colleagues in the School of Arts, Media and Creative Technologies, working with programme teams and the school leadership team to enhance practice in Education across the school, and is a member of the university Assessment Forum.
John is an active member of SEDA, the Advance HE Accredited Programme Leader network, the Advance HE Friends of the North group, as well as the Teaching Excellence Awards Lead network.
Over the course of the last two decades, John has led educational projects and events for HEFCE, Advance HE, JISC and SEDA around innovative assessment and assessment literacy, and has published articles in Educational Developments, Practitioner Research in HE, Student Engagement in HE Journal, Multicultural Education and Technology Journal, International Journal of e-Assessment and British Journal of Educational Technology.
