Biography

I am a Lecturer in Film Production at the University of Salford, specialising in production design and creative technologies. My work sits at the intersection of digital processes, film design and immersive media, informed by over a decade of experience across corporate production, broadcast post-production and freelance editing.

My current practice explores how experiential forms such as immersive theatre and art installations can be translated into cinematic environments.

I am a co-investigator on the Nested Cinema research project, contributing both as a production designer and creative technologies practitioner, and I collaborate on sector-facing creative technology initiatives, including projects involving responsive lighting and projection for live performance.

Areas of Research

My research focuses on production design, immersive cinema and expanded screen technologies. I investigate spatial narrative, audio-reactive lighting, multi-screen installation, hemispherical/180° cinematography, and design-led methodologies within practice-as-research. I am interested in how emerging technologies reshape storytelling, audience experience and technical pedagogy within film education.

My outputs include immersive exhibitions, international conference presentations, funded pedagogic research, prototype development and cross-institutional knowledge exchange.

I contribute actively to the Nested Cinema Research Lab and engage with wider disciplinary networks, including the Production Design Research & Education Network (PDREN).

Teaching

I teach across production design, creative technologies and immersive workflows, and I am module leader for two Production Design modules within the Film Production programme. My teaching approach emphasises technical learning through creative intention, collaborative exploration and reflective practice. I am especially interested in inclusive technical pedagogy and in supporting students to build confidence within creative technology environments.

In 2024/25 I led an LTEC-funded project on co-creating growth mindsets with female creatives in technical environments through community learning and interactive teaching strategies. This work continues to shape both my pedagogy and my future research.

I am also engaged in international knowledge exchange with colleagues at Hochschule der Medien (HdM Stuttgart), where reciprocal visits, workshops and shared curriculum discussions inform my ongoing development of immersive technology teaching and collaborative learning models.
