Biography

Jamie did a BSc in Biology at the University of Nottingham, and then undertook the MSc in Biological Photography & Imaging MS, also at Nottingham. He then completed a PhD in Insect Flight in the Department of Zoology at the University of Cambridge, titled 'A Near-Perfect Flying Machine: the 3D Kinematics of Hoverfly Flight', graduating in 2011. 

Since then Jamie worked as the University of Cambridge Museum of Zoology's in-house photographer for 3 years, before 6 years tutoring undergraduates at the University of Cambridge in the 1st year Evolution & Behaviour, 2nd year Evolution & Animal Diversity & 2nd year Ecology, Evolution & Conservation courses, also holding a position as Director of Studies in Biological Natural Sciences at Queens' College and at Sidney Sussex College. He was voted one of the top eight undergraduate tutors in all the sciences at the University of Cambridge at the 2017 CUSU Student-Led Teaching awards.

As well as work for the University of Cambridge, Jamie has contributed to many outreach programs, including the Sutton Trust, TeachFirst Futures and the Institute of Continuing Education at Madingley Hall, Cambridge; and he also runs his own wildlife photography tour business, taking guests to photograph charismatic wildlife both in the UK and abroad

Research Interests

I began my research in the field of insect flight, but my interests since broadened into many aspects of animal behaviour and ecology.
