Areas of Research
As part of my ongoing research into sustainable fashion education, I authored a paper titled Fixing Fashion – A Sustainable Future, co-written with Deborah Smailes and Jess Power, for submission to TIWC 2025. The paper addresses the urgent need for systemic change in the fashion industry by exploring how education can drive sustainability through innovative pedagogy. It aligns with the conference’s themes of Sustainability & Circularity and Fashion & Design, presenting a UK-based case study that integrates active blended learning and multi-modal assessments to engage students in critical discussions around environmental and social impacts in global fashion production.
The research highlights how Generation Alpha’s strong environmental values can be harnessed through educational strategies rooted in Value-Belief-Norm Theory and Social Practice Theory. Students are encouraged to explore ethical consumerism, second-hand fashion, and circular business models through the creation of digital zines, reflecting real-world trends and challenges. This paper offers a pedagogical roadmap for embedding sustainability into fashion curricula and provides actionable insights for educators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders committed to shaping a more ethical and circular fashion future.
