Biography
I started my career in theatre after graduating with a BA (hons) in Drama and Theatre from Trinity College, Dublin. I was particularly interested in interactive and multi-media performance and this led to an exploration of film, particularly documentary. After working in the fields of film, media and live performance in Ireland, Germany and Australia, I moved to Manchester to pursue an MA in filmmaking at MMU. I taught for one year at MMU after graduating and have been working full time at the university of Salford since 2014. In Manchester, I have created work for the Library Theatre Company, the Manchester Art Gallery, Norfox young People’s Theatre and the Stockport Air raid Shelters. In my research, I have collaborated with The People’s History Museum, The Working Class Movement Library and the NHS.
Areas of research
Film, Women’s history, Performance, Suffrage
I teach Acting for screen at level 4 and 5, Introduction to Scriptwriting, Performance Studies and Directing and Producing at level 5 and Creative Techniques in Video Drama Production and Documentary to Mockumentary at level 6. I also supervise Video Projects at both level 5 and 6.
I supervise Practical Research Projects in the areas of performance, film, documentary, women’s and gender issues and history.
I am interested in practice-based research around forgotten history, documentary film and women’s history.
I also explore the development of collaborative methods of creative practice for film and live performance in my research.
I am currently researching the theatre and films of the suffrage movement and producing creative responses to that body of work as well as researching the archive of material in this field that is, as yet, largely unexplored.
I am also working with colleagues in the School of Heath and Society on an NHS project Not Just a Thought.
