Biography

Annabeth Robinson is an Creative Technologist and Filmmaker predominantly using immersive technologies, screen based virtual worlds and game platforms since 2005, to explore multi-user interactive artworks and education experiences.

She is currently Course Leader for MA Animation at University of Salford and has been teaching for 20 years across various institutions - supporting students development in Creative Development, Industry Engagement and Practice Based Research across the Animation discipline. Her academic development has led to her being recognised as a Senior Fellow of the HEA.

She helps facilitate and host - 'Educating Animators' an academic conference at University of Salford in partnership with Manchester Animation Festival from 2018 to 2024.

Recent practice and consultation has developed Immersive Animation Content for ‘Havelok’s Kingdom’, an Innovate UK funded project with Bright and Shiny productions and support of MITHI, resulting in an 18 min animation produced in Unreal Game Engine exploring the legend of Grim the Viking, presented in Grimsby in May 2025.

‘Human Aquarium: Deep Water’ was a projection mapped installation in partnership with Yorkshire Life Aquatic presented as part of Lightwaves Festival 2023, at Media City with Quays Culture, highlighting the effects of climate change and human impact on the bodies of water globably, The project utilised investigation into Generative AI for speculative video of changes to our relationship with seas and rivers.

Her previous research into serious games - was jointly with University of Leeds, Department of Earth and Environment - producing a virtual mapping game for the Geology Dept. She has co-presented this project at conferences including ALT-C in September 2015 and JISC Digifest 2017. The project won a Times Higher Education Award for Outstanding Digital Innovation in Teaching or Research 2016. It also was shortlisted for the Guardian Higher Education Awards - Digital Innovation 2017

She has created visuals and animated video backdrops for Ya Devi - at the Stage, Leeds - May 2015 - an Arts Council funded Dance Theatre show devised by Devika Rao. She was also involved in video aspects of Mermaids Tale, an immersive theater project at Bramley Bath's November 2015, devised by Yorkshire Life Aquatic, and funded by Arts Council and Heritage Lottery.

In the virtual world - Second Life - she is known as AngryBeth Shortbread. Her Work has been shown internationally. She has also been commissioned in the past by Long Now Foundation/BlueAir.tv to recreate Brian Eno's 77 Million paintings in SL, and was involved in creating content and art for Duran Duran's Second Life project - The DDU - (Azizi,Sanhedralite,Tlon,Khanda).
