Three Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Gold Awards presented to Salford academics
Our School of Health and Society has scooped an amazing three Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Gold Awards, recognising our outstanding work in this area.
The awards were presented by Professor Deborah Sturdy, Chief Nurse for Adult Social Care, at her honorary lecture, delivered at the school at the end of January.
Dr Melanie Stephens, Associate Professor (Reader) in Adult Nursing, was presented with an award for the work of the Interprofessional Education Student Training Care Homes Team, which saw the University of Salford work alongside other universities and five care homes to co-create, implement and evaluate an innovative new model for care home placement provision.
Professor of Nursing and Healthcare Equity, Vanessa Heaslip, was recognised for leading the team who brought the RCN Foundation Chair in Adult Social Care Nursing role to the University of Salford. Throughout a competitive bidding process, this team, supported by Professor Margaret Rowe, showed an innovative approach to adult social care nursing, recognising the pivotal part this workforce has to play in our health and care services.
Finally, Professor Margaret Rowe, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of the School of Health and Society, was presented with an award for her individual contribution to leadership and enterprise in health and social care. As an active contributor to both national and regional debates covering workforce issues, Margaret’s innovative approach has helped shape the future workforce across health and social care settings.
Her drive has positioned the University of Salford as a leader for education and research innovation, supporting cross disciplinary working, expansion of placements into nontraditional social care areas and the nurse educators' role in developing the health and social care agenda.
The Chief Nurse Adult Social Care Awards recognise individuals who go above and beyond their everyday roles to provide excellent care, leadership and inspiration. Recipients of the award are also invited to become social care ambassadors, a role that focuses on raising the profile of nursing in social care, both publicly and within the profession, to inspire future generations.
