Salford Spring Careers Fair is a huge success for students and graduates

Categories: University Campus

The University of Salford’s Spring Careers Fair was a huge success last week as students and graduates connected with employers in our first in-person fair since Covid-19.

Taking place on Wednesday 9 March across two locations, our Lady Hale building and Allerton building, the event was a great opportunity for students and graduates to connect with employers who were eager to encourage applications for their many employment opportunities.

Ian Boardman, Head of Careers & Enterprise at the University, said: “A massive thank you to all the colleagues, employers, students and graduates who made the Spring Careers Fair a great success!

“We had a huge turn out and it was a fantastic opportunity for our students and graduates to get an insight into what their future careers could consist of.”

A mixture of 700 students and graduates attended the fair, having the chance to network with the 60 employers present, including but not limited to Abercrombie & Fitch, Salford City Council, The Northern Care Alliance and Pearson UK. For a full list of employers present, see the bottom of this article.

One of our students said: "It was so interesting and had a good separation of different types of employers by using the ground floor areas for general recruitment and then the first floor for Engineering."

Another student shared: "What I liked most about the fair was the opportunity to meet prospective employers and also to learn about different organisations and their objectives.’’

Employers promoted a range of volunteering, part-time job, placement and graduate job employment opportunities.

Emmett Cleaver from Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd said: "Face to face interaction with students is something we've been extremely limited to during Covid, so it was great to be involved.’’

Patrick Matthews from Ardmac said, "This has been our first year in attendance and we look forward to developing a relationship with the University moving forward.’’

Also held on the same day as our Applicant Visit Day, the Spring Careers Fair gave prospective students an opportunity to recognise the work we do to connect student and graduates with employers whilst they are studying and, also, afterwards.

The Careers & Enterprise team in the Library coordinated this event, supported by Employability Advisors in each school. For more information on colleagues who would like to support student and graduate employability, visit this webpage here.
