Manchester Swarm, Widnes Wild and northern police ice hockey team, Peelers IHC, will be providing student placements for the forthcoming season.

Widnes Wild General Manager, Wesley Spurrett, said: “We are delighted to be able to partner with the team over at the University of Salford. We love the work that they do in the community and really wanted to be a part of that for their students and programmes.

“It's going to be great to have the students on board and help them in some more real-world situations to aide them with their development.

“We could not be more excited to be working with freshly graduated Kirsty and her team. It will be exciting to see all her hard work come into good use!”

Recent University of Salford graduate Kirsty Keir will become the team’s Head Therapist, having spent 3 years at the university learning and developing her skills across various placements.

Kirsty said: “Throughout my there years, I have been privileged to gain hands on rehabilitation experience from Macclesfield Rugby, Manchester Storm, Winnington Rugby Club and The Salford Sports Injury Clinic. All of which were provided through the extensive contacts of our Lectures.

“The university has been extremely supportive over my final year, with the inclusion of a RAP from disability and learner support; my lecturers were very keen to accommodate my current situation.

“On the day of receiving my results, I was appointed the head GSR of Manchester Swarm and Widnes Wild, I cannot wait to continue my development and help provide experience for students.”

Bob Bramah, a lecturer in sports rehabilitation at the University of Salford and a keen ice hockey player himself, said: “The pandemic severely restricted opportunities in sport for our students and this is a great opportunity for them to learn about a sport at which GB is ranked 16th in the World.

“I am excited to be involved with the three teams and thank those involved for giving an opportunity to University of Salford students to learn about our great sport and help the teams in their quest for a successful season.”

All three teams will be proudly wearing the University of Salford logo on their kits for the forthcoming season and you can find out more about each team on the following links.
