At the University of Salford, we are honoured to have a diverse community of supporters who share our vision for creating a better future for those within and around our institution.
In a record-breaking year, we are proud to have received over £4.6 million in philanthropic funds and new pledges from our donors, volunteers and friends.
These vitals funds will be used to change the lives of our students, colleagues and community, through research, student support & access and civic & community programmes.
None of this would have been possible without our hard-working Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement Team, who are dedicated to retaining a lifelong relationship with our graduates and supporting them throughout their post-University life and career, demonstrating the power of collaborative advantage.
Alumni give back not just through funding but also through their time, skills and networks, volunteering to support current students, taking part in guest lectures, advising on the curriculum, and making industry connections. As our largest single stakeholder group of the University, our 220,000+ alumni community (and growing!) are our biggest brand ambassadors and best examples of the impact of the University on enriching lives locally and globally.
Philanthropic funding is secured not only from alumni, but also through charitable trusts and foundations, corporate organisations and high net worth individuals with a clear affinity to the University, the city of Salford, the region and/or a specific cause.
To secure this level of funding, it has taken strong and positive collaboration across the institution, involving academic leaders, professional service colleagues and engagement with community organisations.
The result has not only been a record year for fundraising, but we are also celebrating the largest ever single philanthropic gift to the University. This year’s success of transformative gifts demonstrates the important role of alumni and philanthropy in enabling the University to deliver against our innovating to enrich lives strategy.
Sophie Thorp, Head of Philanthropy, Alumni & Supporter Engagement, said: “It’s great to see Salford now being seen as a clear destination for philanthropy, attracting the attention of prestigious funders.
“Of course, all of this didn’t happen overnight – it’s taken years of relationship building to nurture this level of support and I’m proud of the team and of all their energy and dedication. External investment of funding of this level into initiatives including research, equipment, outreach programmes and scholarships is a clear endorsement of the University’s strategy and our dedication to sustainable growth, place-based social impact and inclusive innovation.”
Announced this week, find out more about a major grant from the Wolfson Foundation, which will help fund equipment for a new centre dedicated to research into human movement.
