Dr Katy Szczepura appointed President of the Imaging Section of the Manchester Medical Society
We are pleased to share that Dr Katy Szczepura from our School of Health and Society is stepping into the role of President of the Imaging Section of the Manchester Medical Society.
Katy is an Associate Professor in Medical Imaging Physics and has dedicated her career to advancing the use of imaging science and technology to improve patient care. Her research spans developing new imaging techniques, optimising clinical practice, and ensuring that innovation translates into meaningful health benefits.
Katy is also deeply committed to supporting the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals. She has guided many undergraduate, MSc, and PhD students through their educational and research journeys, and takes pride in nurturing curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in her students.
Her election as President reflects not only her expertise, but also her enthusiasm for bringing people together across disciplines to share knowledge, spark innovation, and strengthen the imaging community in Manchester and beyond.
The Manchester Medical Society is a leading provider of Continuing Medical Education (CME), offering high-quality local meetings with speakers of national and international renown. As President, Katy will work closely with the Board to shape and deliver the Imaging Section’s programme for the year ahead. Presidents are elected by the Board after a period of service, recognising their leadership, commitment, and contribution to the Society’s mission.
Katy will give her Presidential Address on Thursday 9th October at 6pm, in Room G21, Mary Seacole Building, University of Salford. The title of her address is: “Are we seeing what we’re looking at? – The Physics of Medical Imaging Perception”
The evening will also feature the Postgraduate Student Interesting Cases Competition, showcasing the talent, insight, and innovation of the next generation of imaging professionals.
