Statement of Public Task

The University of Salford Library is required to comply with the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2015. Re-use means using information for a purpose different to that for which it was initially produced, held, collected or disseminated.

This statement sets out the functions carried out by the Library that are within its public task. It is regularly reviewed and is due to be considered again no later than August 2019.

All information held by the Library in connection with the achievement of the public task is, unless an exception applies, accessible for re-use.

The Public Task

The University of Salford received its Royal Charter in 1967. The Library is part of the Directorate of Student and Academic Support and operates in accordance with the University of Salford's Charter and Statutes and within its governance and strategic framework.

The Policies which apply to the use of the Library and its facilities are available on the University's Policies and Procedures web page. Information about visiting the Library is available on the Library website.

Library collections are searchable via the Library website. Documents created by the Library may also be available via the Library website. Application for re-use of these materials will be considered on a case by case basis.

These documents will not be accessible for re-use as they fall outside of the Library's Public Task Statement:-

  • Documents regulated by the Data Protection Act 1998.
  • Documents which are accessible under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
  • Documents where copyright is owned by someone other than the University.

Other sets of information held by the University of Salford which are outside this public task are not covered by the Regulations.

The Library reserves the right to refuse requests for re-use of information under the Regulations where valid exceptions apply.

In accordance with the Regulations, any requests for re-use will be addressed within 20 working days, or an explanation provided if a longer delay is anticipated.

The University may charge for certain information and the charges will be made clear upon enquiry after the information in question is specified.
