Build your academic profile

Update your academic profile in Worktribe

The content of your Worktribe™ profile can be made visible via the University of Salford's staff pages and our institutional repository USIR. All Worktribe™ Academic Profiles are automatically set to private. To make your profile discoverable via Worktribe™, the University’s website and the USIR, please change the Public Status field to “discoverable” within your profile.

For University of Salford staff, the Worktribe™ Academic Profile is automatically populated with data provided by HR; colleagues should complete the fields related to their professional background, i.e., the biography, teaching and learning and research interest fields, where applicable.

To access and update your profile, visit Worktribe, navigate to the Profiles tab, select My Profile and populate the details in the Details tab.

Set up and maintain your ORCID profile

ORCID provides a unique identifier that distinguishes you from every other researcher. It also has a profile feature, which you can populate with information about your research activities. We recommend that you build and maintain an ORCID profile and link it to Worktribe™. You can also link your ORCID iD up with services like Crossref, Scopus, DataCite and many more so that information about your publications can be automatically added to your profile.

Check the accuracy of your Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar profiles

The systems listed above track scholarly publications and citations. Your profile in these systems are commonly used and highly visible in the scholarly research information ecosystem.

The data in Scopus and Web of Science drive bibliometrics and indicators which are used to evaluate the influence of authors and articles, as well as journals and institutions.

Google Scholar

Creating a Google Scholar profile is a simple and highly visible way of collating your publications and making them easier for others to find.

Scopus and Web of Science

If your work is indexed in Scopus or Web of Science these databases will give you an ID and profile. You can add these to your Worktribe™ profile. It is worth periodically checking that the information held is accurate and you are correctly associated with your publications and citations. Having an ORCID will aid Scopus and Web of Science to accurately identify your publications.

Promote your research on social media

Social media platforms like X (Twitter), Facebook and LinkedIn can be a great way to promote your research to academic and non-academic audiences. Think about potential audiences for your research and experiment with any tools that you think might be useful.

Altmetric

You can use Altmetric to track the attention your research is receiving online. Altmetric provides an early indication of the reach and interest in your research.

ResearchGate and Academia.edu

These academic networking sites are a useful way to connect with others in your research field. They are also often used to share research publications, but you need to make sure you are not infringing any copyright restrictions. Link to open access versions where available and get in touch if you’re unsure.
