Salford Engineering Scholar graduates with a First

A Salford student from the Gerry Mason Engineering Scholarship Programme has graduated with a First-class degree.

Abdul Rahman Sanhat, who studied BEng Aeronautical Engineering, received his degree award this week as part of the Class of 2022 graduation ceremonies. The University of Salford offers many different scholarship programmes, with the Gerry Mason  Engineering Scholarship being one which supports talented engineering students with the financial aid they need to complete their degree whilst unlocking their potential.

When asked about the scholarship Abdul said: “ As a full-time student studying a demanding course, it was not easy to cope with the financial aspect of university life, especially considering that I have no family in the UK as I came here alone when I was 18. Receiving the scholarship meant that I was able to continue my studies but with a better mindset that is focused on thriving and achieving my ambition.”

Abdul chose to study at Salford as it is one of the few universities that offer an Aeronautical Engineering course. He added: “ What I enjoyed most about the course was the variety of modules covered during the three years of study. It is designed so that students are equipped with the vital theoretical and practical knowledge required by the job market. In addition, I liked the Aircraft Design Enterprise module, where I was able to design a real-world aircraft.”

He has recently secured a graduate role as a stress engineer in an aerospace company and is preparing for his professional registration with the Royal Aeronautical Society. In the future, he is looking at studying for an MSc degree in Advanced Aerospace Engineering, with his interest being research in aeronautical sustainability.
