Professor Carol Evans: Pro Vice-Chancellor Education and Student Experience

Professor Carol Evans is the Pro-Vice Chancellor Education and Student Experience and Professor of Higher Education at the University of Salford, as well as a global leader in research-informed inclusive practices and pedagogy. Prior to Salford, she held many senior leadership positions and significant roles within higher education, including at the universities of Exeter, UCL: IoE, Durham, and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery in London. She served as the inaugural UK Vice President of the International Federation of National Teaching Fellows (IFNTF) and was a member of the Committee of the Association of National Teaching Fellows.  

Beyond Salford, Carol is a member of the British Council’s Higher Education Sector Group, and advises on national and international education initiatives. She is a National Teaching Fellow and Principal Fellow and has achieved Collaborative and Spotlight Awards for Teaching Excellence (CATE) from Advance HE. She is also a lead assessor for OfS. Carol has produced world-leading research in assessment and individual differences. Her inclusive Assessment Framework (EAT) promoting equity, agency, and transparency in assessment has been successfully applied within UK and international contexts.

Carol is passionate about enhancing inclusion and is a strong advocate for disability inclusion in Higher Education. She is a member of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator’s Disability Experts Panel. Through her work with Transforming Access and Student Outcomes (TASO) and colleagues in the UK and Australia, she has developed a sector-leading disability inclusion framework and integrated approach to inclusion (IIF). She works closely with the British Council to promote disability inclusion for students within global HE programmes, supporting the development of an international disability inclusion community. Carol is also the strategic research lead for Realizing Inclusion for Disabled Employees in Higher Education (RIDE Higher), an NADSN initiative to promote better understanding of the experiences of disabled staff in HE and to advance disability inclusion for all.
