Our very own Maxwell Building is set to be the star of the show in one of the grand finale events to mark Salford’s 100th birthday celebrations this Autumn. The world premiere of Salford Everywhere will show a monumental living portrait of Salford and its people created by award-winning visual artist and filmmaker Matthew Rosier.
The University has teamed up with Salford City Council and two of the city’s creative partners ‘From The Other’ and ‘Walk The Plank’ to facilitate Salford Everywhere, a specially curated film showing the city and its people which will be projected onto Maxwell over two nights.
On 9 and 10 October the film featuring over 1500 people will be projected at scale onto the University of Salford’s Maxwell Building. The 45-minute video will be screened twice each night and Salford Shopping Centre in Pendleton will also be illuminated with the film each evening.
Described as a ‘living portrait’, the video will be accompanied by a live score celebrating the city’s rich musical heritage, featuring local choirs and brass bands, arranged by Michael Betteridge, with music direction by Salford-based composer and DJ, AFRODEUTSCHE.
Matthew’s team has been filming in Salford all year, meeting pigeon fanciers, NHS workers and builders as well as supermarket teams, school children, chess players, dementia support groups, food bank charity teams, local athletes and Royal Mail staff. Many have cameo s in Salford Everywhere which captures the spirit of the city through the people who make it.
Matthew said: “I’ve always loved working with the people of Salford. This city has such a strong social identity and history, from Peel Park where our project culminates, to the social clubs, where groups and teams from across the city participated in the film. Having spent a month editing the footage of over 1500 people from Salford - what comes through is the humour, togetherness and toughness of this place.”
