Coppicing important for conservation (explain what it is)– timber has lots of uses. Thatching, furniture etc.
Hazel is often coppiced, which is important for habitat and wildlife conservation. Coppicing is a traditional woodland management technique and involves repeatedly cutting young stems to ground level, to stimulate the growth of new shoots. Hazel nuts are edible and in the past hazel trees were grown for large-scale nut production.
