There are small-leaved and large-leaved limes, as well as common lime trees which are a hybrid between the two. Lime trees have distinctive heart shaped leaves and aphids are very attracted to them. Lime trees represent liberty in France and have been planted following battles and in German folklore they were a symbol of justice and fairness.
