Our BSc Esports Enterprise and Management degree is built to prepare you for a career in the fast‑growing esports industry.
A key focus of the programme is developing entrepreneurial skills that help you create, grow and sustain your own career in esports. Whether your goal is to manage teams, run events or launch new projects, this degree gives you the tools to make it happen.
The curriculum explores the global esports ecosystem, from grassroots communities to international organisations, and builds your understanding of the marketing strategies that drive esports content. You’ll learn how to manage projects and deliver tournaments for online broadcast, while gaining practical knowledge of both home and studio broadcast environments.
You’ll also study the legal, regulatory and ethical frameworks that shape esports, giving you the confidence to work within professional standards. Alongside this, you’ll explore consumer behaviour and player experience, discover new entrepreneurial opportunities and see how data analysis drives strategy across every level of an esports organisation.

Esports Eco Systems - Grassroots and Organisations
In this module, you will explore and evaluate the ever-growing esports industry, examining how it began and continues to develop across the globe. You will identify and explain how organisations have grown within the esports sector and how new genres and games emerge with the support of communities and grassroots initiatives.
You will also be taught basic research skills to investigate the industry’s early development and demonstrate an understanding of how sustainability has become an increasing focus since its surge in popularity.
Data Driven Decision Making
Explore how data drives business success and learn about essential tools for data collection, analysis and decision-making. You'll also learn how to use data to make and justify business decisions and will have the opportunity to develop your professional digital skills to ensure you meet the growing demand for these in the modern workplace. You will learn how to communicate in collaborative digital environments to a high professional level using a range of industry standard tools, and you'll be introduced to emerging tools for AI and automation.
Campaigns in Practice
Explore the practical application of marketing principles through real-world business projects. You will gain experience in project definition, planning and delivery while developing essential teamworking and professional skills. This module bridges theory and practice, preparing you to design and implement effective marketing campaigns in dynamic business environments.
Developing your Career Foundations
This is the start of your professional career, and this module lays the foundation that will support you in being a successful graduate. In your first year, you will research potential career options and map-out skills and opportunities to be developed through your second and third years. By building a graduate portfolio, and demonstrating employability skills, you will identify your strengths and weaknesses to create a personalised and targeted plan alongside your programme pathway. Starting early will give you the confidence and adaptability as you progress through your undergraduate career.
Global Business and Sustainable Digital Futures
This module examines the twin forces shaping the future of business: the urgent drive toward sustainability and the disruptive potential of emerging technologies. You will explore ecological economics, climate change and the global energy transition alongside the dynamics of digital transformation, including artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 and 5.0, robotics, automation, 3D printing, the Internet of Things, blockchain and virtual reality.
Through case studies and applied learning, you will develop the ability to lead and innovate responsibly in a rapidly changing world, applying creative and sustainable solutions to transform industries and shape next-generation business strategies.
Home Broadcasting and Content Creation
You will learn the key aspects of using beginner and intermediate level broadcast and streaming technologies in practice, specifically in terms of content creation such as livestreaming and video editing. This module will provide fundamental understandings of these technologies due to their importance in the esports industry, particularly its entrepreneurial nature.
The key module activities will be directed towards the broadcast and streaming requirements required for Year Two's Studio Broadcasting module. You will build on your practical creative skills, using technologies such as the facilities in the Esports Lab and Media Suite to further your development in relation to broadcasting and content creation for esports.
Esports Events - Project Planning and Management
In this module, you will learn the foundations of project planning, designing and theming of an esports event as you work in groups to develop your event concept to a panel of industry experts. Working collaboratively, you will develop a proposal for the concept and design an esports event for live broadcast, which considers the critical elements of event planning, project management, finance, logistics, marketing, risk, consumer experience and live delivery of your event and present to a panel of industry experts.
Young Enterprise
The module runs in collaboration with Young Enterprise (UK) who focus on enhancing and embedding entrepreneurial learning and enterprise in education through adopting experiential learning. This module gives you the opportunity to lead, innovate and sustain through real entrepreneurial experience. Working in teams and supported by industry mentors, you will create and manage your own start-up enterprise as part of the Young Enterprise (UK) programme. You will apply business decision-making tools, develop creative solutions and engage directly with customers, stakeholders and advisors. Through this hands-on process, you’ll strengthen critical thinking, teamwork and leadership skills while exploring how ethical, sustainable and data-informed decisions drive enterprise success. The experience provides practical insight and a strong foundation for future entrepreneurial and professional growth.
Customer Experience and Value Creation
This module develops your ability to lead customer experience strategy through critical thinking, data-driven insight and purposeful decision making. You will innovate by exploring creative approaches to value creation, applying curiosity and evidence to design engaging, customer-centric experiences that inspire change. Emphasis is placed on analysing and improving customer journeys, fostering relationship-based value and delivering service excellence through adaptive and reflective practice.
Using practical tools and strategic analysis, you will learn to sustain meaningful customer connections that balance organisational growth with social, ethical and environmental responsibility, preparing you to shape, inspire and maintain innovative customer experiences that create lasting value for people and planet.
Studio Broadcasting and On-Air Talent
In this module, you will learn the key aspects of using industry-standard, advanced level broadcast and streaming technologies in practice, specifically in terms of production of large-scale esports broadcast events. This module will provide a fundamental understanding of these technologies due to their importance in the esports industry, particularly due to their entrepreneurial nature. The key activities for the module will be directed towards the broadcast and streaming requirements for a professional studio livestream. You will build on your practical creative skills, using technologies such as facilities in the Esports Lab, Media Suite and MediaCityUK TV studio to further their practical development and demonstrate an understanding of the requirements of broadcasting and content creation for esports.
Esports Events - Production and Delivery
During this module, you will work with your peers to deliver a live esports broadcast. Working collaboratively, and with input from stakeholders and industry partners, you will implement the event plan, define and allocate team roles, develop your content and organise any teams required to participate in the event. Additionally, you will execute the event marketing plan, build your event brand and plan all the logistical and technical operational activities required for delivery of an online event broadcast. This will bring together the learning from previous Event Planning module into one event showcase and provide the opportunity to develop your employability skills towards your chosen career pathway.
Developing Your Professional Identity
This module will enable you to build on the embedded employability skills developed during year one of the programme. Through engaging in various professional development and reflection activities, you will be able to identify or realise, evaluate, plan and lead on the development of your future-focused knowledge, skills, behaviours and activities required to help secure your professional career aspirations, according to your programme of study. You will develop knowledge on how to access career-specific and professional graduate-level job opportunities through exploring graduate-level labour market trends, and job-specific employer requirements.
You will also draw on the expertise of the school’s Career’s and Employability team, employer visits and workshops delivered by the academic team within the school. This will enable you to identify and engage in innovative development strategies to improve your work experience and employability, enabling you to further strengthen in a sustained way your career-focused digital footprint in relation to your professional career goals and around the graduate level employer selection process.
The Professional Graduate
This module enables you to step confidently into your future as a professional graduate. Building on your development at Levels 4 and 5, you will critically reflect on who you are, what you offer, and how you will make your contribution. You will deepen your emotional intelligence, evaluate workplace behaviours, and identify strengths and aspirations to shape a compelling professional identity. Using strengths-based diagnostics and simulated recruitment environments, you will learn to lead through critical thinking and data-driven decisions, innovate with curiosity and entrepreneurial skills, and sustain positive impact for people and planet while building a lifelong learning plan.
Esports Ethics, Integrity and Law
This module challenges you to analyse and evaluate the ethical, legal and integrity issues shaping the global esports industry. You will compare and assess topics such as fair play, match-fixing, player welfare, diversity and inclusion, and the responsibilities of teams, organisations and tournament operators. You will apply and interpret legal principles related to contracts, intellectual property, sponsorship and broadcasting rights.
By the end of the module, you will be able to justify informed decisions and strategies that promote fairness, accountability and professionalism within the rapidly evolving esports environment.
The Global Esports Context
This module examines the development of esports as a global phenomenon, exploring how the industry operates across diverse cultural, economic and political environments. You will investigate the international structures of esports, including publishers, leagues, governing bodies and event organisers, and critically assess how these stakeholders contribute to the global esports industry. You will employ theories related to international management and globalisation to critically analyse and assess differences and similarities between Esports regions such as North America, Europe and East Asia.
Environmental, Social and Governance for Esports
In this module, you will critically evaluate how environmental sustainability, social responsibility and governance frameworks shape the esports industry globally. You will appraise current practices in areas such as diversity, inclusion, player welfare, ethical investment and sustainable event management. You will synthesise knowledge from case studies, industry reports and theoretical models to formulate strategies that balance ethical responsibility with commercial growth.
On completion, you will be able to create and justify recommendations for how esports organisations can embed environmental, social and governance principles into their operations and governance, contributing to a more accountable and sustainable future for the industry.
Advanced Digital Marketing
This module aims to develop core skills in digital and social media-based targeting and communication strategies. The practical module covers a host of topics including effective digital presence, critical components of a digital marketing strategy and its strategic significance. The module also aims to develop capabilities in digital brand awareness, search engine optimisation and search engine marketing, content optimisation, etc. A comprehensive coverage of marketing communication through digital media is achieved through intensive case discussion sessions, group activities, practitioner lectures and insightful study materials, allowing students to understand how the concepts underpinning digital and social media marketing support business success.
Integrated Learning Project
The Integrated Learning Project is a capstone module which allows you to apply the knowledge that you have acquired during your degree in a substantive real-world project. You will be able to select from three different types of project: a research dissertation; a consultancy project; or an entrepreneurial simulation project. The module allows you to apply your skills in critical thinking, independent research, project management, communication, and problem-solving, whilst engaging in an in-depth exploration of a topic relating to your degree. The output will be a portfolio that showcases your innovation in the generation of a sustainable and responsible solution to the selected problem which showcases your academic and professional abilities as a future leader. The project outputs will provide evidence of your knowledge and skills within your graduate portfolio, supporting your graduate career journey.
We take a flexible approach to our course delivery that promotes diversity and inclusivity and provides a blended learning experience, which will vary to meet specific programme requirements. This learning time includes formal lectures and interactive activities such as seminars, tutorials, practical sessions, laboratory and studio learning. Smaller classes may be used to support collaborative activities such as project and group work and presentations. A range of different assessments and feedback is offered to meet the needs of both our diverse student body and specific subject needs.
Our undergraduate courses are normally made up of 20 credit modules which are equal to 200 hours of learning time. A three-year degree qualification typically comprises a total of 360 credits (120 credits per year).
Please note that it may not be possible to deliver the full list of options every year as this will depend on factors such as how many students choose a particular option. Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.

Graduates can pursue a wide range of roles across the esports ecosystem. Popular jobs include event producer, broadcast technician, team manager, content & media lead, community manager, marketing & sponsorships manager, operations manager, live streamer and YouTuber. You might also branch into technical specialist fields like network engineer, audio/visual technician or replay operator.
Some graduates may choose to be freelancers, working on specific events to provide key knowledge which could vary event by event.
Standard Entry Requirements
Applicant profile
This course is ideal for creative, motivated and adaptable individuals ready to immerse themselves in the fast‑moving world of esports. You will be encouraged to step outside your comfort zone, whether that means presenting on camera, producing behind the scenes or managing live events. A strong interest in esports, digital media or live event production is important, along with a willingness to take part in a wide range of projects throughout the year.
Prior industry experience is not required, but skills or qualifications in media, business, IT or creative subjects will help you succeed. Above all, this course is designed for those who want to combine creativity, teamwork and technical knowledge to build a career in one of the world’s fastest‑growing industries.
International students
We accept qualifications from all around the world. Applicants will be required to show a proficiency in English, with an IELTS score of 6.0 (with no element below 5.5).

Maths and English at grade C / grade 4 or above. Applicants who do not have the equivalent of grade C or above in these areas will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
