Part-time
One semester
January 2024
This module will provide you with a rigorous theoretical and evidence based introduction to using Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy with children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties or disorders.
This module will enable you to further develop cognitive behaviour therapy knowledge and skills for the practical application of working with children, young people and their parents/carers. You will gain an understanding of the developmental, clinical, legal and ethical considerations and adaptations required when working with children and young people.
It will enable you to critically discuss and apply the research evidence for using Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy interventions with children, young people, and their carers, within your own working context.
Please note that it may not be possible to deliver the full list of options every year as this will depend on factors such as how many students choose a particular option. Exact modules may also vary in order to keep content current. When accepting your offer of a place to study on this programme, you should be aware that not all optional modules will be running each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. Whilst the University tries to ensure that you are able to undertake your preferred options, it cannot guarantee this.
The School of Health and Society is a forward-thinking, dynamic school with a commitment to lifelong learning and real world impact.
Our courses are informed by the latest research and we work closely with organisations from both the public and private sector to ensure our teaching is at the forefront of practice.
This module can be taken as a single module for CPD purposes or as part of the MSc/PgDip Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy programme.
The module and programme team have strong links with a range of children and young people’s services and practice areas, ensuring teaching is delivered by practice experts within the field and that course content is contemporary and ‘real-world’ relevant.
This module is suitable for practitioners from across health, social care, education and independent sector, who want to use evidence based cognitive behavioural interventions with children, young people and young adults experiencing emotional or mental health issues
