Overview
This online e-learning programme will enable you to critically review and apply the relevant concepts, knowledge, understanding and skills necessary to professionally care for a patient with liver disease.
You can take this course as a single module for continuing professional development or as part of the full PgCert Gastrointestinal Disorders programme.
You will:

Modules
On successful completion of this module you will be able to:
- Assimilate, synthesize, and systematically apply the relevant normal physiological mechanisms and the related anatomical and pathophysiological processes that underpin liver disease.
- Critically appraise and apply the evidence base that underpins the care management of patients with liver disease.
- Critically evaluate the knowledge and skills needed for the comprehensive assessment, planning of care, delivery and evaluation of care for patients with acute and chronic liver disease.
- Critically consider and evaluate the contribution of nursing and other professional groups in the management and delivery of effective care to patients with liver disease.
- Examine and analyse the factors influencing health care for patients with liver disease (e.g. cost, efficiency, quality and resources available).

When accepting your offer of a place to study on a programme with optional modules, you should be aware that optional modules may not all run each year. Your tutor will be able to advise you as to the available options on or before the start of the programme. You must have completed a relevant healthcare undergraduate programme and be an appropriately qualified healthcare professionals actively connected to clinical practice e.g.
- Qualified nurse
- Dietitian

Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL)

The Accreditation of Prior Learning (APL) process could help you to make your work and life experience count. The APL process can be used for entry onto courses or to give you exemptions from parts of your course.
Two forms of APL may be used for entry: the Accreditation of Prior Certificated Learning (APCL) or the Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).
