Faraday House
In collaboration with Crescent Salford partners Salford City Council and ECF, the University is currently preparing a full planning application for a refurbishment of Faraday House on the A6, next door to Irwell Place Car Park in Salford.
We would welcome feedback on the proposals.
The site forms part of the University’s Campus Connectivity Plan (CCP) which is the major redevelopment of its research, teaching and public spaces. The University is a partner in the wider Crescent Salford Masterplan, along with Salford City Council and ECF.
The Crescent Salford regeneration is a key project within Greater Manchester’s Central Growth Cluster – one of the city region’s six Growth Locations, where investment is being targeted to turbocharge growth.
Who will use it
It is planned that the space will be used by non-student-facing Professional Services colleagues. Amongst the first to move in will be the teams currently occupying Crescent House, which will be redeveloped for university use. However a workstream is in place to decide which other non-student facing teams will also be located there.
Benefits
If permission is granted, the new Faraday House building will provide over 3,500 square metres of flexible working space. The project will transform a brownfield site and will incorporate green areas, creating a fresh new and welcoming environment for staff.
The proposal includes an accessible entrance from the A6, bike storage, increased landscaping and greening areas. Another entrance will also be accessible from Irwell Place car park.
Parking
The small parking area to the rear of the Faraday building will be decommissioned during the work. On completion accessible parking spaces will be reinstated adjacent to the building. The nearby Irwell Place car park will remain operational throughout
No spaces will be lost in Irwell Place car park and capacity will remain the same as it is now.
Disruption
We will make every effort to limit any disturbance caused by the work and to preserve access to adjoining facilities. Any disruption to roads, pavements or potential for noise, dust, vibration, will be communicated in advance.
Biodiversity
No trees will be impacted. The project will align with the University’s commitments on biodiversity.
Timescales
We would like to submit planning proposals later this month. If granted work will begin on site in late Spring 2026, and it will be completed in winter 2027. Deadline for feedback is Tuesday 16 December 2025.
Feedback
We are keen to hear your thoughts you can get in touch with the project team by emailing estates-ccp@salford.ac.uk.
Once the planning application has been submitted Salford City Council will formally notify neighbours and ask for comments on the proposals.
