Microsoft Office Specialist Qualification

Boost your CV and learn new IT skills that will benefit your studies and working life with Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS).

 

MOS is a globally recognised IT qualification available for free to current students and staff. The resources you need to pass are available online. With this self-study programme, you can practice in your own time, at your own pace.

What certifications are available?

Get certified in one or more of the following applications:

  • Word 365
  • Excel 365
  • PowerPoint 365
  • Outlook 2019

Challenge yourself further with an Associate certification, and Expert certification in Word and Excel.

Who is MOS aimed at?

The MOS programme is aimed at those with an existing basic knowledge of the Microsoft applications. GMetrix is the free online training software that prepares you for your MOS exam/s. The training software tests and strengthens your existing knowledge, with practice exams setting tasks made up of a random mix of basic and intermediate skills.

About the GMetrix training software

The first step is to join the MOS programme, complete online registration form is at the end of this page, and follow the on-screen instructions to access the GMetrix user guide. It will explain how to access the GMetrix training software and how to get started with your practice.

  • You can download and install GMetrix to your personal Windows devices. [GMetrix MOS practice tests are not compatible with Macs].
  • If using a library computer or laptop you can access GMetrix via AppsAnywhere.

GMetrix online training -  provides fully interactive practice exam tests in Training and Testing modes which simulate official MOS exams.

Accessibility - GMetrix software is designed with accessibility features that can be enabled for candidates who need them, such as screen reader compatibility, expanded time for tests, and other visual aids like high-contrast modes and cursor enlargement. eWorkbooks - You can access Microsoft approved workbooks which map directly to exam objectives, from our Blackboard MOS page after joining the programme.

You've consistently scored more than:

70%

The pass mark for MOS exams is 70%. When you consistently achieve 70-80% pass marks in the GMetrix practice tests, you can book an exam place.

How to book an exam place

Book a place on one of our invigilated exam sessions below - they currently take place online at least twice a month, with additional sessions scheduled nearer summer graduation. Remember, you must gain 70% or more before you book a place.

    IMPORTANT: Click on the MOS page on Blackboard link on the form's ‘Thank you’ page. It includes a step-by-step user guide for GMetrix, plus detailed workbooks. It also provides this year's GMetrix Access Code which you will need to activate your GMetrix account.
