Salford make PPE to support frontline staff

The university has been working hard in its effort to address the PPE shortages in hospitals and care homes in the region. The Maker Space, a state-of-the-art engineering and digital fabrication lab, located at The University of Salford, has been developing a visor prototype which has now gone into production with over 3000 being made.

The visors are 90 percent sterilisable and are being distributed across the North West region and are being prepared to be sent as far afield as Belfast to support essential workers. The Maker Space has developed a visor in partnership with Salford Royal Hospital using the open source Prusa design. Further work has also taken place supporting Ultimaker GB with the prints to an alternative open source design.

Dr Maria Stukoff, Director the Morson Maker Space said:” I can't praise the maker team enough for their determination to get stuck in and create protective visors for the health services. The whole process is a real collaborative effort with our industry partners, and we will continue PPE production working closely with our networks to supply the essential equipment to those that need it urgently.”

The Morson Maker Space is a unique partnership with the Morson Group, together the teams are working tirelessly to support the NHS to make it safer for those who put their lives at risk in the fight against coronavirus.
