Salford launch its first ever industry driven community to tackle the climate emergency

The scheme will draw on the expertise of the University of Salford’s Energy House research facility and comes at a time as the University prepares for the opening of its multi-million-pound Energy House 2.0 later this year. The brand-new initiative and Impact Fund will harness the activity and expertise of this new facility located at the heart of the University of Salford’s campus and extend the benefit directly into the community.

The Impact Fund will support projects to diversify the energy efficiency workforce through supporting Women in STEM Scholarships/Studentships, to power outreach work within local Schools around the topic of climate change and to support community initiatives on our doorsteps helping in the drive to net zero.

Professor Will Swan, Director of Energy House Laboratories said: “We are delighted to be launching this impact-driven community alongside the opening of our new Energy House 2.0 facility. If we are to achieve net zero by 2050, then we need to work together – not just to tackle the challenges we face today, but to ensure we plan for tomorrow.

"Friends of Energy House 2.0 focuses on critical education outreach, community organisations and women in STEM initiatives to nurture the growth of the next generation of diverse talent – the very people who will be leading the way in decarbonising our planet for years to come, starting with our homes.
