As part of their recent office move to Manchester, the Department of Culture, Media & Sport hosted students from across the School of Arts, Media & Creative Technology to provide insight into a career as a Policy Advisor across the creative industries.

The Policy Outreach Event allowed students to understand the role of Policy advisors, the breadth of areas DCMS covers and more about what it’s like to work as a Civil Servant.

Students had presentations about the work of Policy Advisors working on the Commonwealth Games, Sport and Broadcasting, Video Games & Esports and the Unboxed festival before breaking off into groups to work on creating their own policy to pitch back to the panel.

Quote from Harry Hosker, Employability Advisor for SAMCT – ‘It’s important for students to be exposed to a wide variety of roles and industries during their time at work The event with DCMS was a great opportunity for our students to find out more about the many different pathways that a creative degree can take them. It’s important for students to see the jobs that are available across Salford, Greater Manchester and the wider North West region and the move up North will open many doors for our students and graduates who are interested in pursuing a Policy Advisor role.’
