Biography

I am a woman from a minoritised background in academia, with a BA in English Literature and Language and a professional journey that bridges English Language Education, Intercultural Education, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). I focus on inclusive teaching, working to ensure equitable access to education in friendly, safe, and respectful environments. I see education as a way to care for both the Earth and our democratic societies, where everyone has a voice, a role, and the chance to contribute meaningfully. I am especially interested in the cultural aspects of learning in multicultural settings and in promoting UN SDG 4: Quality Education through intercultural approaches.

Areas of Research

My research interests center around Intercultural Education, underpinned by a commitment to advancing UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education).

My MA dissertation focused on Intercultural Education and explored Asian master’s students’ experiences of intercultural education and the challenges they faced within the multicultural environment of UK higher education. This research was directly aligned with SDG 4, highlighting the importance of accessible, inclusive, and equitable education for all.

I was also an active member of a collaborative ESD project at the University of York, where we co-created resources for teachers and students aimed at promoting sustainable development through education.

In addition, I contributed to the Decolonising the Curriculum initiative within the Department of Education at the University of York, where we explored ways to promote diverse perspectives within educational content and delivery.

Currently, at Salford Business School, my ongoing project work is shaped by EDI principles, focusing on enhancing the student experience through inclusive academic support initiatives such as topic-based drop-ins, cultural awareness panels, and pathways to success, stories of top achievers. These are designed to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities for all students, especially those from underrepresented or international backgrounds.

Teaching

Since joining Salford Business School, I have contributed to postgraduate education by supporting and teaching on modules including Supporting Student Success (SSS), Strategic Skills for Learning (SSL). Professional and Communication Skills for Employability (PCSE),Industry Collaboration Project (ICP), and Research Methods for Managers (RMM). I deliver tailored academic skills sessions focusing on assessment preparation, critical writing, and referencing, while using teaching approaches that respect different cultures, encourage problem-solving, and adapt to meet the needs of diverse learners.

To support student transition into UK academic culture, I lead inclusive initiatives such as topic-based drop-in sessions, Academic Cultural Awareness panels, and the ‘Pathways to Success’ video series featuring high-achieving students. I also coach student teams for the Global Business Challenge (GBC), guiding them through an international innovation project and supporting their recognition for outstanding teamwork.

Additionally, I have contributed to the design and development of content for the module I teach and collaborated with academic teams to align teaching materials with inclusive and student-centred practices.

I engage in continuous professional development through workshops, peer observations, and reflective practice, and I am certified as Carbon Literate.
