I have three passions (well MCFC as well):
Passion 1: I love KTPS, I was a KTP Associate (they were called Teaching Company Schemes then), and I have been on the academic teams on 11. Why KTPS are amazing is, for the company the company, they get to focus on a strategic problem, academics get to work with a live project and all that brings and the associate graduates endless experience. Oh and it is all REF-able.
Passion 2: working with Salford’s PGR community (amazing Doctoral School and staff), Leadership of the PGR community in the Business School (in Jonathan Lord’s capable hands now) was both an amazing and honorable role and one I am most proud of. Every PGR’s journey is a unique one and being there to be part of those and ensuring that there was encouragement and support in place to make a difference I saw as my responsibility. I currently supervise 7 PGRs, I have 11 PhD completions. Contributing to the research community is really important; I have examined 17 PhDs, 8 as an internal examiner and 9 as an external.
Passion 3: the consequences of disruptive technologies on (now digital) societies, so this shapes my research interests and informs my teaching and learning. Who is not interested on how privacy and surveillance impacts families' lives, or who cares about the ethics of AI before it is too late, and is society on an eternal hype cycle when it comes to tech.
