Biography
Louise Ready-Syrat has been a Camera Operator on Drama and Continuing Drama for over 15 years. She has also worked as a Producer, Assistant Producer, a Camera Director, Video Journalist and Shooting Producer Director on a number of Documentaries including, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, Heartbeat and The Royal, C4’s Work on the Wildside, the BBC's Helicopter Heroes, as well as producing my own for Inside Out on the Asian Tsunami.
Starting as a very keen work experience student she got her first job in television on a film being made for Sky which didn’t have a continuity person. She offered to do the job on the understanding that she could camera trainee as well….
After working for many years as a staff camera operator for ITV and the BBC, and then as a freelancer on a number of programmes, she is now teaching full time at the University of Salford. More recently she has become the Programme Leader for the hugely successful BA Television and Radio Production Course
Areas of Research
2020 - Wellbeing in Higher Education for Staff and Students - Ongoing research includes :-
- Podcast productions on Wellbeing co-produced with students on Utter Radio
- Staff use of the Compassionate Mind App for mental health and wellbeing.
- Student use of the Compassionate Mind App.
- A Wellbeing module - developed in conjunction with Warwick University.
2024 -Ongoing - Peer Assisted Learning - Presentation at LTEC Festival 2025 and paper submission to the 2025 LTEC Post-Festival Publication in Pedagogy.
2024 - Ongoing - Storytelling in STEM subjects (In collaboration with SEE - developing an informational film about Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder - A story based approach to improving public understanding of FASD the impact of diagnosis on an individual with FASD), working with Professor Arijit Mukhopadhyay (SSEE), Professor Penny Cook, and Dr Robyn McCarthy (SHAS) on the RIPE-funded biomarker project for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). My role is to lead production of a narrative film translating complex research into accessible public engagement outputs. Co-created with community stakeholders, the film will serve as both a REF 2029 impact case study and a lasting educational asset.
