Lecturer and Researcher in Computer Science, I am an expert in Learning Technologies, Advanced Human Computer Interaction and Computer Programming. Having taught large classes at all levels in Higher Education for over fifteen years, I am skilled in course and module design, course marketing and engagement and pastoral care of students. My practical teaching skills are highly rated by students and I take a pragmatic approach to problem solving. I am an accomplished researcher with an up to date record of publications which support my academic work and always innovate in both my teaching and research activities. I lead teaching innovation by example within my subject group and encourage colleagues and students to expand their traditional approaches to pedagogy.
I began my career in the mid 1980's as an Electrical Engineering technical apprentice for the international Oil and Gas Company, Schlumberger Limited. Following this I studied Electrical Engineering to the level of BEng (Hons), and then studied for an MSc in Computational Physics.
I came to Salford as a lecturer in 1998 following a three year Research Assistantship on a successful large scale Framework 4 European Union project (IMMP) investigating deployment issues with broadband multimedia services. I am especially interested in usability of state-of-the art technology such as the Internet, mobile devices, social media and future digital media.
