Biography
Kim is a lecturer in law. She is currently programme leader for Law with Criminology and Link Tutor for BUB. However, Kim has worked in various sectors over the years such as transport and logistics with a special interest in maritime law and she is a qualified translator and interpreter.
Kim has worked in HE for many years in the UK and abroad and brings a comparative and international perspective to legal education. She has taught various subjects and undertaken study at different levels although now she focuses solely on law. She is committed to enhancing the student experience and as such, she views her teaching role as a vocation.
She is experienced in designing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate modules, supervising dissertations and supporting students from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Kim is committed to research-led teaching, inclusive practice and linking legal theory to the realities of victims, courts and international trade.
Her research interests are myriad, but she has a specific interest in socio-legal studies. They span the fields of family and criminal law including sexual offences and theories of class-related and gender-related offending with particular reference to domestic abuse. She would welcome enquiries from prospective doctoral students in any of those areas and is particularly keen on projects that take a feminist approach to the research process.
She is also a magistrate in the adult criminal courts and has worked closely with the Witness Service in Crown Court, especially in cases relating to sexual offences and domestic abuse.
Areas of Research
•How the criminal law recognises and responds to coercive control and domestic abuse.
•Barriers to justice for victims with limited English, including the role of interpreters in police and court proceedings.
•Comparative approaches to domestic abuse law.
