Biography
Qualified in 2006 as a children’s nurse with a diploma in children’s nursing with advanced standing from the University of Salford. Worked initially on HDU at Pendlebury Children’s hospital as a staff nurse for two years, and then joined Heywood Middleton and Rochdale, (HMR) children’s community nursing team as a staff nurse in 2008. Progressed to sister in 2009 and completed a degree in professional nursing studies which included prep for mentorship at the University of Salford. Became PEL for the team in 2009-2016. Donna then qualified as a V300 prescriber in 2010 at Bolton university, and helped to develop a team of V300 nurse prescribers to move the service forward. Donna went on to study paediatric clinical examination at Liverpool John Moore’s University in 2013, to be able to clinically assess and diagnose children with minor illnesses. Developed and lead unique paediatric nurse practitioner service in HMR from 2013-2021 which remains very successful and has lots of interest from other services who want to replicate the model. Completed advanced clinical practice as the University of Salford in September 2019. Having taught on the Advanced practitioner programme here at Salford, was inspired to apply for a permanent position.
