New Adelphi Facilities

The creative heart of our university

The £55m New Adelphi building is an inspirational creative space on our Peel Park campus.

Set over seven floors, arranged around a light flooded atrium and featuring the 350 seat New Adelphi Theatre at its heart, it provides our music, performance, art, design and architecture students with a highly collaborative and professional learning environment.

As well as the New Adelphi Theatre, the building features a 140 square metre studio theatre, two large TV acting studios, five industry standard recording studios, 12 amplified music rehearsal spaces, two dance studios, three floors of dedicated wood, metal, textiles, print and plastics workshops, seven photographic studios, 14 instrumental tuition rooms, a double height 100 square metre band-room/live room and a suite of flexible performance and studio spaces.

Commercially it offers businesses a first class conference venue, lets creative freelancers access specialist maker facilities and allows musicians, actors and performers to rehearse and record as well as inviting the public to enjoy a diverse selection of innovative art, dance and theatre productions throughout the year.

Facilities

New Adelphi theatre

The 350-seat theatre features flexible seating that can be configured to suit a range of events and performances. Intelligent and generic lighting, a highly adaptable EM Acoustics PA system, and a high-powered Christie projector combine to deliver a powerful audio-visual experience to the audience.

The Amphitheatre

This external performance space offers a unique environment for outdoor events.

The Studio theatre

Suitable for all types of performance, this classic black-box performance space features flexible seating and staging that can mirror the layouts of the New Adelphi Theatre.

Television acting studios

Actors can gain valuable experience in front of camera in our two studios:

  • Screen 1 provides a professional fixed set and three-camera HD facility
  • Screen 2 operates as a flexible and experimental space, with a mobile three-camera 4K-production unit and full-height chroma key filming facilities

A professional studio gallery completes the set up.

Voice acting studio

Vocal performances, such as those used in radio or video game production, can be recorded here. Foley techniques for sound effects can be captured in the Live room, while the Dead room provides a tightly controlled sound environment for capturing the driest possible recordings.

Recording studios

High quality equipment from manufacturers such as Fender, Roland, Nord, Yamaha, Vox, Mesa Boogie, Ampeg, Mark Bass, DW drums, QSC and Line 6.

14 instrumental tuition rooms perfect for individual practice and 1-to-1 teaching. While each space features a Yamaha upright piano and playback equipment, different rooms are also furnished with particular instruments and equipment such as orchestral percussion, guitar and bass amps, keyboards and baby grand pianos.

Storage

We also have an instrument storage facility for students who wish to use their own equipment for rehearsals.

In addition, the building houses a wide range of high specification studios for performance and dance rehearsals, open plan studio spaces for art, design and collaborative projects, and instrumental tuition rooms.
