University of Salford recognised as top employer for LGBT+ workplace equality in double Stonewall success

Categories: University Campus

The University of Salford is celebrating after receiving two prestigious Stonewall accolades for commitment to LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace.

Stonewall Gold Employer Award

Salford has been named as one of the Top 100 Employers after climbing an impressive 69 places to rank 88th, placing the University 12th in the sector, following a Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI) submission in November last year.

The University is also one of 132 employers to receive the Gold Award – a brand new Stonewall accolade for 2022.

As part of the WEI submission, staff were invited to complete an anonymous feedback questionnaire sharing their experiences of diversity and inclusion at the University. The results from this survey, along with evidence demonstrating work in eight areas of employment policy and practice, determines an organisation’s ranking in the Top 100 Employers list – the leading benchmarking tool for LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace.

Jo Purves, Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic Development at the University, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Salford has been named as one of Stonewall’s Top 100 employers and we have received the Gold Award following our recent WEI submission.

“This is testament to the great work taking place across the University to promote LGBT+ inclusion and it demonstrates that Salford is a welcoming workplace for LGBT+ colleagues. I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who completed the anonymous questionnaire and to those involved for all of their hard work. This is a fantastic achievement and one that we should be really proud of.”

The full Top 100 Employers list can be found on the Stonewall website, as well as further information about the importance of LGBT+ inclusion and how the Top 100 list is created.
