University of Salford to be part of the Greater Manchester Green Summit 2020

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

The third annual Greater Manchester Green Summit is taking place later this month to discuss how we can build a greener and more sustainable future for the region.

The Summit, which takes place between September 21 – 24, will be co-hosted by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, in partnership with the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority.

This year the summit will be a virtual event with each day having a different theme based on Greater Manchester’s environmental plan and will feature workshops facilitated by the hosts of the event and guest speakers.

The University has been invited as a guest at the event and will see Professor Will Swan speaking about the energy efficiency research  that takes place at Energy House.

Professor Swan, Director of Energy House Laboratories said: “It is a pleasure to share the leading research that takes place at Energy House with participants at the Summit.  Energy House is a  truly innovative research facility committed to investigating ways we can create a greener future.

“The Energy House Laboratories team worked with wider Greater Manchester partners to support initiatives such as the Retrofit Accelerator and Energy Innovation Agency. Over the last 10 years the University of Salford has developed a leading energy and buildings research team and our role in the Green City Region Partnership is the way we can make sure our research makes real impact in supporting the city’s decarbonisation plans.

“Having the Manchester Youth Authority as co-hosts provides a platform for young people to discuss and challenge the issues that matter to them and work towards making Greater Manchester greener.”

The summit gives citizens, businesses and communities interested in improving Greater Manchester an opportunity to get involved and will see speakers debate the six environmental themes outlined in the Greater Manchester environment plan.

The aim of the event is to provide the wider community with an update on the progress Manchester is making towards achieving carbon neutrality, and to engage with national and international audiences on how the region is going greener.

Prof Swan added: “I am looking forward to sharing the insight from Energy House, exchanging ideas and exploring ways to create a brighter future for us all.”
