The University of Salford has been granted the prestigious Ministry of Defence 'Employer Recognition Scheme' Silver Award. This recognition highlights the university's unwavering commitment to supporting defence personnel and its outstanding efforts in upholding the values of the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award is granted to employers who actively demonstrate their commitment to ensuring that service personnel and the armed forces community are not unfairly disadvantaged during their recruiting and selection processes. It also signifies that the university actively promotes positive policies regarding defence personnel issues among its workforce.

"We are incredibly proud to receive the Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award," said Victoria Coomber, Armed Forces Engagement Lead at the University of Salford. "By signing the Armed Forces Covenant, we made a promise to treat those who serve or have served in the armed forces, as well as their families, with fairness and respect. This award reflects our ongoing dedication to being a forces-friendly employer, with team members who have military experience and a commitment to providing a supportive career environment."

The Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award acknowledges the University of Salford's exceptional support for defence personnel. Initiatives such as providing reservists with additional time off for training, establishing a dedicated point of contact for the military community, and recognising and leveraging the transferable skills possessed by military personnel exemplify the university's dedication to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces face no obstacles in accessing higher education.

Dr Sam Grogan, Pro-Vice Chancellor Education and Student Experience at the University of Salford, said: “Through the Armed Forces Engagement Project, the University of Salford has emerged as a leader in fostering collaboration between academia, the military, and the wider community. The work the team has done in supporting Armed Forces personnel, enhancing student engagement, and offering unique learning opportunities has made a significant impact, and we are delighted this has been recognised through the Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award.”
