In October 2021 the University of Salford re-signed the Armed Forces Covenant and pledged its commitment to supporting those who serve or have served.
The University is well-placed to support the Armed Forces Covenant and to ensure it continues to build upon the existing activities and expertise of staff from across the University it has now appointed an Armed Forces Engagement Lead to deliver on its Covenant pledges.
With a significant track record of working with and providing support to the Armed Forces community, the University welcomes Victoria Coomber (pictured) to the role having spent over 5 years as an Armed Forces Covenant Officer across three local authorities in the East Midlands and being part of a military family for 15 years.
Victoria’s extensive experience includes supporting the relocation of Hedley Court Military Rehabilitation Centre to the new DMRC in Stanford Hall, Nottinghamshire and running a Veterans Breakfast Club.
On her appointment Victoria said: “I am delighted to be offered the role of Armed Forces Community Engagement lead and deliver this new and exciting project. This project provides an opportunity to produce a well-defined and comprehensive strategy that will help us identify the right goals and targets to make the University of Salford the best place for Veterans and wider Armed Forces to connect with.”
In addition to ensuring the University delivers on its Covenant pledges, in her new role Victoria will help build on earlier work to develop a more focused strategy in relation to the University’s engagement with the Armed Forces community.
Other tasks will include helping to raise awareness of the wider support available to the community; to make the University and Armed Forces friendly place to study, and to help identify where more development, co-ordination, and investment could be delivered to maximise opportunities.
Working Monday to Wednesday, Victoria can be contacted via email
