Teaching Fellow signs up as host for new sports radio station
A Teaching Fellow at the University of Salford has been announced as one of the flagship host presenters for a new sports radio station.
Sanny Rudravajhala, who teaches on our BA Sports Journalism course, has been named as one of Track Radio’s daytime hosts when it launches on Monday 4 May.
The digital-focused station will combine sports discussion with music and be broadcast from a central London location.
Sannny joins its launch lineup which features ITV Sport’s lead presenter Mark Pougatch, Olympics and rugby union broadcaster Sonja McLaughlan, sports presenter Vassos Alexander and Daily Mail sports reporter Charlotte Daly.
The station is set up to provide a new offering for sports radio fans of BBC Radio 5 Live and Talksport. It will initially be broadcast weekdays from 7am to 7pm on London DAB, with plans to expand in the future.
It has also committed to equal coverage of men’s and women’s sport, without segregating the women’s coverage into standalone shows.
Sanny joined Salford’s star-studded BA Sports Journalism cohort for the programme’s inaugural academic year. He will continue his teaching duties alongside broadcasting stints at Track Radio.
He said: “I’m really excited as I think this is something media and radio has been missing, The aim is to elevate the conversation when it comes to sport. It’s something I’m always telling our students about too. In a world of landfill ‘content’ and clickbait pseudo-journalism, real storytelling is more important than ever. Sport brings us joy and I’ll be aiming to do that with the show.
“We’re building things from the group up. Having Mark Pougatch involved is huge, so I’ll be trying to learn a thing or two from him. And it’s another full circle moment for me as it wasn’t long ago since I was doing my master’s in Broadcast Journalism here and I wouldn’t have had the opportunities I’ve had without it!
“If I can get some of our brilliant students involved in learning the ropes of radio then that will be brilliant. All whilst playing some great tunes too!”
Sanny will be live from 10am to 1pm once the station launches.
