University of Salford student Tom Hodgkins has been announced as Apprentice of the Year at the prestigious RICS Matrics Young Surveyor of the Year Awards 2019.

Tom, an apprentice with RLB who is currently studying for a degree in Building Surveying at the university, won the top spot in this highly competitive category at the RICS Awards ceremony held in London on 28 November 2019.

The judges praised Tom both for the role he plays as an ambassador for the industry at such a young age and his can-do attitude.

Andrew Reynolds, Chief Executive of RLB UK said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Tom and one he thoroughly deserves. His commitment to his own role whilst supporting others in the team as well as finding opportunities to promote our industry is exceptional. At RLB we are incredibly proud of the work our apprentices carry out and this year we were delighted to have two nominations in this category which showcases the future talent of our industry.”

Commenting on his award, Tom said: “This means the world to me, it shows the hard work and long days in both the workplace and academia are all worthwhile. It’s really nice to take time to reflect on how far I have come in the short period of time. I joined the industry having just turned 18 and it’s the been the best decision of my life!”
