Salford student film selected for international festival

Ciara Rickard, who studied a BA (Hons) in Media and Performance, created ''Ble rwyt ti'n myned?: A Welsh Folk Story” which is a hybrid documentary that fuses features of the observational documentary mode with animation and archive.

The film explores how a group of musicians, and academic and contributors from ‘Corona’ - a Facebook support group for welsh folk music enthusiasts, revive a traditional Welsh folk song during a pandemic.

One critic, who has seen the piece said that “it was inspiring to be educated about welsh folk music and its place in welsh culture as a philosophy, as artistic expression, and as a vehicle for storytelling.

“Watching contributors engage ideas online, in-person where possible and slowly veering towards their completion of the resurrected folk song was a fascinating experience."

They added: "Ciara is a very talented filmmaker with an original and artistic way of expressing her views."

Ciara is currently working as a Travel Assistant on a major Sony Pictures/Blueprint Films feature which will shoot across Wales from early September. If you would like to find out more about the festival, you can do so here.
