Salford Celebrate the Peter Casey Scholarship
The Peter Casey Scholarship at the University of Salford provides financial support to students completing a built environment-related degree, and is generously funded by Peter Casey, Salford Technical College alumnus and Founder of the Casey Group.
The Peter Casey Scholarship was launched in 2013 to help break down financial barriers of higher education for students from low-income backgrounds and to award excellence in construction. To date, the scholarship has supported nine students at Salford studying Construction Project Management and Quantity Surveying.
The Casey Group is a strategic industry partner of the University, providing our students with real-world experience through placements, part-time trainee positions, and graduate roles. To celebrate the ninth year of our relationship, the University held a celebration event on campus, with the presence of Peter Casey, who meet the current scholars. During the visit, students gained an insight into the industry and advice on how to begin their careers and make vital connections.
When asked about how the scholarship has impacted their University experience, Claire Chadwick, Peter Casey Scholar and final-year Quantity Surveying student, said: “I am very grateful to have received the Peter Casey Scholarship during my first year which really gave me confidence. To get that recognition at such an early stage in my studies was absolutely amazing and I think really has helped propel me throughout the years.”
Dr Greg Watts, Programme Director for Quantity Surveying at the University, added: “We are proud of our long-standing relationship with Peter Casey and the Casey Group and incredibly grateful for the opportunities they have helped to facilitate for students at Salford. Scholarships are more than a financial reward, they instil our students with confidence and provide the flexibility they need to undertake placements, a continuous reminder that they are more than capable of achieving their dreams.
On behalf of the University of Salford, we would like to thank Peter for his continued loyalty to our community.”
