Earlier this month, Professor Simon Green, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange, and Professor Vicky Halliwell, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Health, Community and Life Sciences, joined colleagues from the University's Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement team on a visit to the USA to reconnect with alumni and explore opportunities for future partnerships and support.
Over five days, the team met with alumni and supporters across Houston, San Francisco and New York. Special thanks to Houston-based alumni Ruma Acharya and Asoke Deysarkar, a married couple who first met while studying at Salford, who hosted a special alumni gathering with a distinctly Texan twist, complete with cowboy hats.
The USA visit brought together graduates from different backgrounds and professions, whose lives and careers had taken them in many directions since leaving Salford. Yet despite their different experiences, conversations often returned to something they shared: how Salford had opened up opportunities at important moments in their lives, and the affection they still felt for the University years later.
Sophie Thorp, Head of Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement, said: "What a privilege to spend the week in the USA connecting with our incredible alumni community. The phrase we heard most often was, 'Salford changed my life.' Through meetings and events across the week, we were reminded of the lasting impact of the University and the enduring connections it creates.
“Whilst Salford has changed over the years, the spirit and sense of opportunity remains constant. We enjoyed exploring ways our alumni can continue to support our students, campus and communities, while strengthening connections with one another. We look forward to returning each year to strengthen our strong and impressive global network."
