Salford Alumni achievements are celebrated in glittering style at MediaCityUK
A different kind of celebration took place on election day with Salford alumni and supporters gathering at the university’s media city campus to enjoy a festive evening of entertainment and music.
The Alumni Celebration event recognises the achievements of its international community of over 170,000 graduates.Every year the university host this special evening presenting Achievement Awards to graduates that have had unrivalled and inspirational success in their field. This year’s awards were particularly special as it was the first time the Vice Chancellor presented four Rising Awards to highlight the success of recent graduates from each of the four Schools.
This year, the host of the magical event was alumnus Dean Fagan, an actor best known for his appearance in Coronation Street as mechanic Luke Britton.
The event was well attended by alumni and supporters, with guests flying in from around the world. Upcoming star and Music alumna Alice Gasson kicked off the evening with a special musical performance.
After the awards, guests had the opportunity to enjoy the Lightwave installations currently displayed in our media city campus whilst listening to some festive carols performed by the Salford Choral Society
Patti Holmes, Head of Alumni Engagement and Development said: “‘The Alumni Celebration has been a fantastic opportunity for us to reflect back on the amazing engagement we’ve had with our alumni community in 2019, providing an opportunity to throw a spotlight on some of the incredible talent we have in our alumni community and to thank our volunteers and supporters.
We were absolutely blown away by the achievements of this year’s Alumni Achievement Award winners, from saving tigers in Thailand to battling the loneliness epidemic that we face in modern life, they’re each working to change the world for the better. It’s so important that as a University, we take the time to showcase the talent we produce. It’s been an inspiring evening and a lovely way to end the year”.
