Salford aims for another year of success at RTS North West Student Awards
The University of Salford is seeking a seventh successive year of winning an award at the Royal Television Society (RTS) North West Student Awards next month after seven student projects were shortlisted.
The awards, which honour the best student projects across film, broadcast journalism, documentary and animation, take place at MediaCity every year, with students across the North West vying for recognition.
The University has won at least one award at the ceremony for the last six years and bagged seven gongs last year. Our students also won eight in 2024 and historically swept the board in 2023.
This year, we have seven projects shortlisted across four of the five main categories, at least three more than any other university or film school, with craft awards also available for students to win on the night.
Dogbone, one of our shortlisted projects in the Best Drama category this year has already toured the regional film circuit, appearing at Bolton Film Festival last year. Theo Hughes, a BA Film Production graduate, won the Cinematography in a Short Film – Undergraduate Student award at the British Society of Cinematographer’s 2025 Awards for his work on the film.
Richard Jones, Director of Media, Film, Journalism, Politics and History, said: “It's wonderful to have the work of our students recognised again by the RTS. We offer top class facilities and a real range of expertise from staff across the media and creative industries here at MediaCity and I'm delighted to see students putting all that to such great use.”
Louise Ready-Syrat, Programme Leader for BA Television and Radio Production, said: "We are hugely pleased and proud to see the BATARP films shortlisted for this year's RTS North West Student Awards.
“Our students work hard on innovative and groundbreaking documentaries and to see their work recognised in this way is hugely exciting and inspiring for our current and prospective students. Huge congratulations to Ben, Ed, James and Sam."
Alex Lichtenfels, Senior Lecturer and Subject Group Head for Film, said: “We are incredibly proud of the films shortlisted at the awards this year. This recognition is testament to the continued hard work, passion and creativity of our students. Congratulations to all of the shortlisted students on this well-deserved achievement.”
