The road to electric

Categories: School of Science, Engineering and Environment

Conversations on sustainability and low emission vehicles are on the rise with Government's around the world laying out their plans to ban or slow down the use of petrol and diesel cars. The electric car market is growing at a rapid rate with one prediction citing that by 2025, 20 per cent of cars sold globally will be electric (Source UBS Bank).

In the UK, the Government has announced a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel powered vehicles by 2030. The University of Salford are hosting a FREE workshop for industry where they can delve deeper into how to make the switch to electric. The two-day event is being held on September 14 and 15 and can be attended F2F at the University’s main campus or online.

The workshop is ideal for SMEs in the Greater Manchester area ahead of the clean air zone introduction in 2022, and when fully implemented will see a daily charge for non-compliant commercial vehicles such as LGVs, HGVs, buses, taxis and private hire vehicles. This will have a huge impact on businesses with many considering the uptake of electric vehicles (EV) as an alternative.

The event is being run by the University of Salford’s Energy House Laboratories and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The research facility has a leading reputation in providing the innovation needed to help the international move to net zero carbon emissions in the built environment sector, with vehicle to grid (V2G) technology playing a pivotal role.
