Winners at Educate North Awards

Congratulations to our wonderful Apprenticeships team who the Apprenticeships Award at last night’s Educate North Awards (ENAs)

The ENAs celebrate excellence, innovation and best practice across the education sector in the North of England. Now in their eleventh year, the awards recognise the achievements of universities, colleges and sixth forms, as well as the people and partnerships that are helping to transform education and create positive impact for students, communities and industry. This year we were nominated for eight gongs and we’re happy to take one home in a very competitive category.

The University of Salford is one of the leading providers of apprenticeships in the North-West, growing from 16 apprentices in 2016 to over 4,000 by 2026 (a 24,900% increase), across 22 industry aligned programmes.

Working with over 400 employers and key partners, the University delivers high-quality, work-integrated learning that directly addresses regional skills gaps. Significant investment in facilities, inclusive programme design, and strong employer collaboration ensure apprentices gain the practical skills, confidence, and opportunities needed to thrive.

Salford’s commitment to widening participation, innovation, and civic impact continues to strengthen Greater Manchester’s workforce and drive economic growth across priority sectors.

Adele Lochman and Arron Ward from the Apprenticeships team were at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground to collect the award. Our Chancellor Lucy Meacock presented them the award as event host, making it even more special.

Adele Lochman, Assistant Head of Apprenticeships, said: “The University has established itself as one of the region’s leading providers of apprenticeships and 2026 marks ten years of delivery, making this award even more meaningful for us. Our apprenticeship programmes break down barriers, transform lives, and drive forward the skills agenda for Greater Manchester and beyond. This award reflects the strength of our team in Salford, whose hard work and commitment continue to drive our success. This award is truly a collective achievement.”
