Martyn Davey, producer and founder of the Nursing Associate podcast, ‘Just a Sharp Scratch’, recently joined us on campus to record a new episode and film footage for his upcoming video series exploring career progression into academia.

Martyn is a Registered Nursing Associate himself, and his podcast has become a brilliant platform for sharing real, honest experiences from within and beyond the student and Registered Nursing Associate community.

The podcast aims to celebrate lived experience, challenge misconceptions, and spotlight the impact of those working across the NHS and global healthcare systems. Through honest conversations, expert interviews, and powerful personal stories, it offers a space where healthcare workers can speak freely, educate the public, and connect across roles, countries, and disciplines.

As well as speaking to our Nursing Associate students, Martin filmed in-depth interviews with Ayesha Leonard, who is part of the teaching team on our Nursing Associate programme as a Teaching and Learning Fellow, and Nicole Blythe, Nursing and Midwifery Directorate Lead for Apprenticeships.

Nicole said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome the Sharp Scratch Podcast to Salford. We are proud to support Martyn’s work and our shared ambition to showcase the very best of the nursing associate profession – highlighting where this career can lead and, most importantly, the meaningful difference nursing associates make to the lives of people living with health conditions.”
