Meet The Pipeline: The new MediaCityUK-based training hub with a fresh approach
An innovative new training hub, based at the heart of MediaCityUK, will be offering specialist short courses and masterclasses for professionals keen to meet the demands of the burgeoning TV, film and content creation markets.
Founded by experts at the University of Salford, The Pipeline is made up of a strong team of industry specialists and accredited trainers.
With neighbours like the BBC, ITV and over 250 digital and media businesses, The Pipeline’s multi-million pound facilities are equipped with industry standard hardware and software. These state-of-the-art resources will play a central role in the delivery of professional training courses in Audio, Vision, Craft and Career Development.
Creative Director Christine Pyke has been involved in the media industries for over 30 years as a writer, reporter and producer in newspapers, radio and television and continues to develop and deliver training courses to industry professionals.
She said: “The Pipeline is centred around the needs of industry and our portfolio of training courses really demonstrates that. This year will mark ten years since the University of Salford opened at MediaCityUK and, with support from our valued industry partners, we felt it was the perfect time to launch a vibrant training hub for the media and creative technology sectors.”
The Pipeline’s knowledge packed ‘High-Caffeine’ events are set to deliver an immediate skill boost in just 60 minutes. Sessions will include masterclasses on VFX, how to write the perfect CV, animation and content creation.
Beth Hewitt, Creative Director – Media City Directorate, said: "The School of Arts, Media, and Creative Technology has outstanding industry partnerships, and the launch of The Pipeline further reinforces and enhances our collaborations, stimulating and driving forward employability, creative technologies, and innovation through the creation of industry led short courses and CPD, delivered by industry for industry.
“This is an extremely exciting project, which sees the University of Salford and industry working together to offer a fantastic opportunity for people to learn, upskill and develop. Highly skilled and experienced industry practitioners and professionals will deliver face-to-face short courses in our MediaCityUK campus and online, with the aim of reaching regional, national, and international industry audiences".
A series of 90-minute PR masterclasses via Zoom with the industry specialists will also offer development takeaways to get ahead of competitors.
The first of these, taking place on Tuesday 4 May 2021 and chaired by Broadcast Presenter and PR Consultant Michelle Eagleton, will be a workshop with Sandy Lindsay MBE, Chair of Tangerine PR and Juice Academy. Sandy will be discussing the highs and lows of building an agency, how the platform has changed since she started her agency 18 years ago and in which direction she feels PR is heading today.
Brian Hardman, Head of Post Production Broadcast Operations at Dock 10, added: “I’m very pleased to offer our support to The Pipeline initiative. It is increasingly important that specific skills gaps in this ever-changing world can be filled with nimble and focussed training solutions.”
