IntoUniversity Salford Central celebrates milestone achievements in 2023-24 Impact Report

Categories: University Campus

IntoUniversity Salford Central, established in autumn 2022 by national education charity IntoUniversity, in partnership with the University of Salford and the University of Manchester, is proud to release its 2023-24 Impact Report, highlighting the incredible difference the learning centre and its supporters have made in addressing educational inequalities.

The centre offers after-school academic support, mentoring with local university students and professionals, in-school aspiration-raising workshops and enrichment and work experience opportunities. IntoUniversity collaborates closely with colleagues from the Widening Participation and Access teams at Salford and Manchester to design and deliver immersive and engaging on-campus experiences for their learners. These initiatives provide opportunities to connect with students and academic staff, helping young people envision their future pathways while addressing any perceived barriers or concerns about higher education.

The report sheds light on the transformative moments, both big and small, that have taken place at the centre, showcasing how its work has positively impacted the lives of young people in the local community.

With a progression rate to higher education of 52% compared to the local average of just 20%, IntoUniversity Salford Central is making a remarkable difference in expanding opportunities for young people. Over the past academic year, the centre has worked with a total of 1,433 students, supporting them to reach their potential and overcome barriers to success. 43 IntoUniversity students from across their national network have started studying at Salford, since this impactful partnership began.

“It's been excellent to see the impact of the centre on young people in Salford this year. This centre is a testament to what collaboration can do for communities as we would not be able to provide support and opportunities to our young people without the incredible partnerships we have with the University of Salford, the University of Manchester and local schools and businesses,” says Faye Howard, Regional Operations Manager (North-West) for IntoUniversity.

IntoUniversity would like to thank its volunteers and supporters for their invaluable contributions. Together, this collaborative effort is helping to change the narrative for young people and inspire brighter futures.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generous donations from our supporter community, which continue to support IntoUniversity Salford Central. The centre provides essential academic and mentoring services that bring students together in the Salford community. Despite opening its doors only a few years ago, the centre has achieved groundbreaking results, playing a crucial role in helping young people from diverse backgrounds achieve their full potential. Thank you to our amazing supporters and other incredible partnerships,” says Sophie Thorp, Head of Philanthropy, Alumni and Supporter Engagement at the University of Salford.

The Higher Education Policy Institute’s (HEPI) latest 2024 Social Mobility Index has ranked Salford the fifth best university in England for social mobility. Climbing seven places from last year, this is great news for the University which prides itself on empowering students to achieve their academic and career ambitions, regardless of their background.
